Home / About
A small café doing a few things properly.
Ember Lane is run by Nell and a tiny team who'd rather make one great flat white than a hundred rushed ones. No chain, no script — just a room we're glad you're in.
It started with a decent cup and a spare shopfront.
Nell spent years pulling shots in other people's cafés, watching good coffee get rushed and regulars treated like turnover. In 2019 a little shopfront came up on Ember Lane, and the idea was simple: take the coffee seriously, and the customer even more so.
These days it's Nell, a baker in before dawn, and a couple of baristas who know the regulars by name and order. Most mornings you'll find her on the machine — she likes it there.
We're not trying to be the trendiest café in Liverpool. We'd just like to be your favourite one.
comes from
The good stuff, sourced close to home.
Our house espresso is roasted a few miles away by Dockside Roastery, who tell us exactly which farms it came from and swap the blend with the seasons. Ask about the guest bean — we'll happily talk your ear off.
Roasted in Merseyside by Dockside Roastery, farm names and all.
From Halewood Bakehouse and our own oven, in before dawn.
A Lancashire farm, with oat and soya always on and never charged for.
Loose-leaf tea and a proper hot chocolate for the coffee refusers.
The way we like to run things.
Fresh beans, clean machine, dialled in every morning. A bad shot goes down the sink, not to your table.
We'd rather know your name than turn your table twice. Stay as long as you like — the seat's yours while you're in it.
Local roaster, local bakery, local faces. When we spend, we try to keep it in the neighbourhood.
Bakes come out of our oven each morning. What doesn't sell goes to the local shelter, not back in the case.
Prams, dogs, laptops, big groups, quiet solo mornings — all fine. Step-free in, changing table out back.
Come say hello.
The best way to get to know a café is to sit in it. Have a look at the menu, then find us on Ember Lane.
